Visiting Explorer Program with Bruce Konefe
The Gulf of Thailand is littered with shipwrecks, sunk by massive storms in their time. At a maximum depth of 70 m, the Gulf’s wrecks are well within reach of technical divers, and are ripe for exploration. Nestled on the sandy bottom, the numerous ancient wrecks contain pottery and other artifacts, which tell a story of trade between Thailand and China.
Working with the Underwater Archaeology Division of the Thai government’s Culture Ministry, Bruce Konefe helped to explore and recover many of the artifacts that are now on display at the National Maritime Museum in Chanthaburi, Thailand.
