Bill is, by anyone’s standard, one of the leading deep cave explorers anywhere on the planet. His intrepid life has impelled him to lead many Flag Expeditions, achieve numerous new discoveries, and promote an understanding of earth sciences building a greater understanding of how the planet evolved and how we can help sustain it.
Michael Satterfield is a dedicated explorer whose work spans photography, journalism, and storytelling. His passion for uncovering hidden histories has taken him across Central America and beyond, where he has worked for over two decades with NGOs in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Costa Rica.
Dr. Clark Wernecke is a true rockstar in the world of archaeology, captivating audiences with his extensive knowledge and infectious passion for human evolution. With over three decades of experience as a researcher, educator, and archaeologist.
An explorer at heart, Dr. Bohacs has worked on six continents and in 42 countries. He’s a Life Fellow of the Explorers Club and has even collaborated with NASA on the Mars Rover project. His expertise extends to field safety, co-authoring the bestselling manual "Field Safety in Uncontrolled Environments" and conducting numerous expedition seminars at EC HQ in NYC.
Dr. Scott Solomon is a biologist, professor, and science communicator at Rice University, where he teaches ecology, evolutionary biology, and scientific communication.
Shawn has traversed ancient ruins throughout Europe, shared tea with Bedouins in the Middle East, lived with indigenous tribes in the mountains of Central America, and explored Celtic passage tombs in Ireland.

Brian Hanson, MED’84 has been an active member of The Explorers Club for 37+ years. In April of 2022, he completed his third and final year as a Director Emeritus. Brian was first elected to the Board of Directors in 2000 and served on the Board for a total of 16 years. In 2021 he completed 11 years as Club Ombudsman. Brian is currently a member of The Legacy Society Committee and Management Committee.
Patrick Madden has been diving since 1968, becoming a Certified Master Instructor/Instructor Trainer. He is a retired 26-year Veteran of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and was the dive supervisor and instructor of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team in Manitoba Canada for 7 years.
Joe Watson’s passion for new exploration of the very old has transported him to photograph, fly, dive, sail, study and write on five of the seven continents.
West Hansen is a dedicated member of the Explorers Club Texas Chapter who always contributes invaluable insights, leadership, and inspiration on all occasions. Passionate, vocal, dynamic with indefatigable kinetic energy on any topic dear to him, don’t be surprised if West draws volumes from his repository of knowledge to teach and inform.
Victor is a Dallas native with an undergrad from Stanford and a master’s degree from MIT and Harvard who made his mark in equity investments prior to turning his attention to exploration.

Jennifer Idol, also known as The Underwater Designer, is a trailblazing underwater photographer, designer, and author. With a passion for storytelling through vivid underwater imagery, she has explored the depths of over 30 countries, capturing stunning aquatic landscapes. Jennifer’s work inspires conservation, creativity, and connection to the underwater world, making her a leading voice in marine exploration and design.
The Texas Chapter of the Explorer Club is extremely fortunate to have Nancy McGee as the new Chair beginning 2020. Without debate, her previous term as Vice-Chair and Program Director was beyond stellar and not to equaled, perhaps ever. Nancy McGee is a fabulous public speaker, a leader with vision, effective manager and complete pleasure to work with and know. This chapter is headed to new heights under her capable leadership.
Dr. Sharon (Shari) Wilcox is a cultural geographer and conservation social scientist working in wild cat conservation. She has dedicated her efforts to the study, conservation and restoration of the native wild cat species that call the U.S.-Mexico borderlands home including the jaguar, ocelot, and jaguarundi.
Mia McGuire is an explorer through and through, with a passion for discovering different cultures and the natural world. Since she was young, she’s been curious about what life is like beyond her own backyard, eager to learn from Indigenous communities that have lived in harmony with their environments for generations. For Mia, exploration isn’t just about adventure; it’s about building connections and gaining a deeper understanding of our shared world.
