Bob has been exploring and adventuring around the world since 1973. His interest in Native American cultures led him on explorations in Canada, New York, Arizona, and Texas. In 1982, he explored the remote jungles and Pagsanjan River in the Philippines using indigenous guides. As an avid sea kayaker, he fell in love with the northernmost reaches of North America.
He has explored multiple sections of the Inside Passage, having completed the first 3 of 5 sectors in the Straits of Georgia, Desolation Sound, and Johnstone Strait, and all the while studying the cultures of the Sechelt, Klahoose, Tla’amin, and Kwakiutl peoples that make their home in those areas.
In 2025, his explorations will take him to Alaska and the Yukon or the Northwest Territories. His chosen areas of exploration are The Inside Passage, Alaska, and the Northern Canadian provinces. His dream is to go to the Arctic and learn about Inuit cultures in Canada and Greenland.
You can read about his explorations and follow him on his website at Reflections Off The Grid.
In July 2023, Bob launched his Exploration Website, Reflections Off The Grid, a site aimed as a resource for explorers that features useful information, selected explorer bios, my research, and articles as well as documentation on selected explorations I have done. https://reflectionsoffthegrid.com/
In November 2023, Bob launched ‘Reflections Off The Grid’, an online publication curated from various sources and hosted at Flipboard. The publications are focused on exploration and the geographies of my work. https://flipboard.com/@bobrein/reflections-off-the-grid-jlp0lcafy
