AUSTIN, TEXAS – NOVEMBER 20, 2021 – The Explorer’s Club tour of the Capitol Cupola.

In November, West and Lizet Hansen arranged and sponsored a special Explorers Club Texas tour of the Texas State Capitol. The tour guide presented the history of the amazing capital structure which, including the coupla statue of the Goddess Liberty, is the tallest capitol building in the U.S. including in D.C. The monumental building was built primarily from locally sourced red granite and completed in 1888 with over 360,000 s.f. of space, the largest of all state capitols.

It originally housed the legislative, judicial, and governor’s administration. We toured the rotunda, the treasury, and both legislative bodies where all of the final action is approved. We saw the paintings of Lindon Johnson, Ann Richards, but regretfully missed the auspicious painting of our member and pal Geoff Connor. Drat!#@%!!!

Most brave hearts were privileged to make the slightly treacherous climb inside the top structure of the dome and get a full view of the Texas Star on the first floor. No one lost their cookies.

Many thanks to West Hansen for handling this enlightening event. Good on you West!
