Pat is a Member National of the Explorers Club and now occupies the role of Texas Chapter Chair for 2025/26. He previously served the Texas Chapter as Secretary and most recently as our Program Chair. In addition to The Explorers Club, he is also a member of the College of Fellows in the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
Patrick Madden has been scuba diving since 1968, rising in certification to the levels of Certified Master Instructor/Instructor Trainer. He is a retired 26-year Veteran of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and was the dive supervisor and instructor of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team in Manitoba Canada for 7 years. He has trained in underwater Archaeology, Underwater Pollution & Sedimentology, and Marine Biology. He is a recipient of the SSA Platinum Pro 5000 Dive Award.
As Project Leader, Pat oversaw the successful search and recovery of a historic 1928 Fokker aircraft from a remote lake in Northern Canada. This search project took over 7 years of searching and 2 years to recover the aircraft which now is on display at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada. For all his volunteer hours on this recovery as well as countless hours of volunteering on other projects, Pat was awarded the “Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers” by the Governor General of Canada on behalf of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Pat has also made underwater discoveries in the Connecticut River, such as remains of a historic bridge, and artifacts from the turn of the century log drives. He has been featured in documentaries by National Geographic and Canadian television networks such as the CBC, CTV and Global TV.
He recently retired from teaching Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at a high school in the Dallas area. He now spends his time diving frequently and filming underwater in remote locations around the world.
